Tour Overview
This 14-day, 13-night trip loops through Morocco by private vehicle with a driver, starting with an airport welcome in Casablanca and ending with a transfer back to Casablanca Airport from Marrakech. Along the way you visit the Hassan II Mosque, Rabat, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, the Fes El Bali medina, Ifrane, Todra and Dades gorges, Atlas Studios, Ait Benhaddou, Taroudant, Essaouira and Marrakech. Much of the trip is spent on the road, with sightseeing stops between drives. The middle of the route turns to the desert: you ride a camel into a desert camp at Merzouga on day 5, and on day 9 you travel off-road to the Erg Chegaga dunes for a night in a Berber tent camp. Other nights are in riads and hotels, including Fes, Ouarzazate, M'Hamid, Taroudant, Essaouira and Marrakech. The pace eases toward the end with a coastal day in Essaouira and then time on foot in Marrakech, including the Jemaa el Fna. A local guide leads the medina tours in Fes and Marrakech.
Our take
This is a driving-heavy route, so expect many hours in the vehicle between stops. The desert nights are camp stays, including a Berber tent camp, rather than hotel stays.
Who it's for
The trip suits young adults and families who are comfortable with a lot of time in a vehicle and want to combine cities, medinas and desert nights. It is less suited to anyone who would find camel trekking, off-road travel or camping hard going.
Difficulty notes
Expect long drives on several days, some of them off-road, and an early start. You will walk through medinas, take camel treks, and spend nights camping in the desert.
