Tour Overview
This is a seven-day, six-night loop through Morocco that starts and ends in Marrakech. You cross the High Atlas to the kasbahs and gorges of the south, spend a night in the Sahara dunes at Merzouga, then head north through the Middle Atlas to Fes, Chefchaouen, Rabat and Casablanca. Most days are built around time in a vehicle, with stops along the way for kasbahs, gorges, a cedar forest, Roman ruins and monuments. Fes gets a full day on foot in the old medina, with a guided tour of its madrasas, the university and the tanneries. You sleep in a local guesthouse, a desert camp, a riad in Fes and hotels in the north. Most days include breakfast, lunch and dinner, though the later days include fewer meals. The last day finishes with a drive back to Marrakech and an airport transfer.
Our take
Much of this trip is spent in a vehicle on long drives and mountain roads, so expect full days. Marrakech accommodation is not included, while driver transfers, a local guide in Fes and airport drop-off are.
Who it's for
The trip suits travellers who are happy to cover a lot of ground by vehicle and want a broad look at several Moroccan regions rather than one base. It asks you to manage early starts, a camel ride and a night in a desert camp. It is less suited to anyone who dislikes long drives or walking through busy medina streets.
