This nine-day, eight-night tour starts and ends in Marrakech and loops through Morocco's imperial cities, the Rif Mountains, the Sahara and the High Atlas. You'll spend time in the Marrakech medina, visit the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, explore Chefchaouen, and walk through Fez with a local guide. The middle of the trip heads south via Ifrane, Midelt and the Ziz Valley to Erg Chebbi, where you'll ride a camel into the Merzouga Dunes and sleep in a desert camp tent. After that you'll pass through Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley, then cross the Tizi N'Tichka pass back to Marrakech by way of Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou. The pace mixes city sightseeing days with long travel days. It suits people who want history, architecture and local traditions more than a single base.
