Tour Overview
This is a 7-day, 6-night climb of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania on the Machame Route. You start with a drive from Arusha to Machame Gate and walk through rain forest to Machame Camp, then move camp to camp on foot across moorland, the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, the Barranco Wall and Karanga Valley. The pacing builds towards the summit. Days two to four include hikes that help you acclimatise, and day five takes you to Barafu Camp. On day six you start very early to reach Stella Point and Uhuru Peak, watch the sunrise, then descend to Mweka Camp. On day seven you walk down to Mweka Park Gate, collect your summit certificate and travel by vehicle to Arusha, where you spend the night in a hotel. You are guided by mountain experts with a support crew throughout.
Our take
Pack for rain and cold: rain gear and warmer clothing are needed, and gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. Summit certificates are handed over at the gate.
Who it's for
This trip suits people who are ready for a multi-day mountain trek with high altitude, long hiking days and nights camping. It is not suited to anyone who does not want steep climbing, wet weather or snow.

Expect a steep ascent at high altitude, with long hiking days and heavy scree. Trails can be muddy and slippery, the weather can be wet, and there is snow near the top. The summit day begins with a very early start, and you camp throughout the climb.
